How to make it
In a large nonstick skillet over medium‑high heat, warm a splash of oil. Add the burger patties and chopped white onion. Cook, undisturbed, for about 5 minutes, until the patties are well browned and the onions have softened and picked up some colour.Season with seasoning salt, then use two wooden spoons or firm spatulas to break up or “chop” the patties, mixing in the onions as you go. Cook for another minute.
Sprinkle the mixture with cheese shreds. Add a small splash of water to the pan and cover with a tight‑fitting lid. Turn off the heat and let the residual heat melt the cheese, 1–2 minutes. Remove the lid, stir to combine, and adjust seasoning to taste. Remove lid, stir to combine and adjust seasoning to taste.
Spoon the mixture into toasted Portuguese rolls dressed with your preferred condiments, then top with lettuce and tomato.
