Funding request guidelines

One of our areas of giving is through the Calgary Co-op Community Foundation. Our primary focus is food security. We are helping to provide easy access to affordable, healthy food and proper nutritional habits to local families struggling to provide this basic need.

To improve food security in our community we have three pillars:

  1.  Providing food to those in need – working with local area food banks and other charities
  2.  Nutrition and education – working with local charities to help educate on affordable and nutritious food options
  3.  Food sustainability – invest in programs that help provide sustainable food solutions for future generations

Community investment

We support and fund organizations or programs operating in Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, High River, Okotoks and Strathmore that improve food security.

Please allow a response time of at least 6 weeks, with at least 6 months lead time for donation requests of $2,500. Due to the volume of requests we receive, this allows all submissions to be reviewed in a timely manner.

We focus our funding efforts on improving food security, as we cannot support every group or worthwhile cause. Please note we do not fund the following:

  • Publications, community or goodwill advertising
  • Professional or technical associations
  • Political groups
  • Religious and sectarian organizations (except for community services offered on a non-denominational basis)
  • Fraternal organizations and private clubs
  • Conferences, training sessions, seminars, workshops, conventions, retreats, trips and tours
  • Film, video and television productions
  • Grant-making foundations or endowments
  • Third-party fundraisers (particularly those that Calgary Co-op supports directly), corporate fundraising activities by for-profit organizations or service groups (those who donate services or proceeds to a different organization)
  • Individuals or fundraisers to benefit an individual (like a GoFundMe or other crowdsourced platforms)

If your organization is a registered charity but doesn’t qualify for the community investment program, consider taking advantage of our Charity Plus program to get a 5% discount (and yearly member refund) from our food centres.
