As of July 1st, both the Prevnar20 and Tdap vaccines are now provincially funded in Alberta, providing increased access to essential immunizations for eligible residents.
Prevnar20 Vaccine:
Prevnar20, a one-time pneumonia vaccine, is now available for free to eligible Albertans. This vaccine doesn’t require any boosters and can be accessed directly at pharmacies without a prescription. The eligibility criteria include:
For those eligible, receiving the Prevnar20 vaccine will be recorded in their Alberta Health files.
Tdap Vaccine:
The Tdap vaccine, which protects against Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Whooping Cough), is now also available for all Albertans over 18 who require a booster shot. It is recommended to get this vaccine every 10 years. Like Prevnar20, it can be obtained at pharmacies without a prescription, and the administration will be reflected in Alberta Health records.
