Sometimes on a hot summer day, or after a job well done, you just want to crack open a cold one to feel truly refreshed. But if you’re on the clock, making healthier choices or you prefer not to drink alcohol, you’ll already know finding a truly great tasting non-alcoholic beer is a challenge.
Calgary’s Village Brewery has heard the call for better non-boozy brews. The Village Local Pal Ale was Village’s first low alcohol offering, and now it’s got a new neighbour; Village Local Stout.
“Village Local Stout is our second non-alcoholic offering,” says Jackson Stuart, Marketing Manager, Village Brewery. “This beer was designed to be a bold stout that appeals to all beer drinkers. It has a silky smooth mouthfeel and notes of chocolate and coffee as well as subtle hop flavours to balance the all Albertan malt backbone.”
Village Local Stout joins Village Local Pal Ale, a crisp and refreshing pale ale that’s meant to appeal to everyone. With balanced sweetness from the caramel malts, and low-moderate bitterness thanks to two whirlpool additions of Citra and Ella hops, Village Local has become the go-to low alcohol option for many Albertans. That’s because Village takes as much time, effort and care with these low-alcohol brews as it does with its regular lineup of beer.
Village is more than a name for the brewery. The company was founded on the principals that ‘it takes a village’ and that you should always be ready to help a neighbour. Not surprisingly Village puts its money where its mouth is.
“10% of our bottom line goes back into the community. We haven’t talked a lot about that publicly, but in the eight years since Village launched, the work we have done is something that we are really proud of. That’s why it’s now noted on our packaging, so people can understand further how they can support the community alongside the brewery.”
Keeping a few cans of Village Local or Village Local Stout cold in the fridge will mean you can imbibe smarter, whether that’s for yourself, or if you’ll have friends popping by who are also making healthier choices.
