Thanks to you and your generosity, we have been able to support many important community initiatives in 2019 including three recent fund and food raisers events for The Mustard Seed, The Calgary Food Bank and Meals on Wheels.
Thanksgiving: Time for Turkey
Calgary Co-op worked with Shine FM, AM 700 The Light and Meals on Wheels to collect turkeys and cash donations to help feed those in need during Thanksgiving. Our members generously donated 343 turkeys and more than $5,000; making Thanksgiving very special for many families.
Stuff-a-Bus for the Calgary Food Bank
One of the Calgary Food Bank's biggest events of the year was the 27th Annual Stuff-a-Bus event, where Calgary Co-op joined forces with Calgary Transit, XL 103 FM and 90.3 AMP radio to fill Calgary transit busses with donations. Calgary Co-op members answered the call, stuffing each bus full of donated non-perishable food items as well as cash donations to support the Calgary Food Bank. In all more than $218,000 in food and cash was donated.
Holiday Ham Jam
Most recently Calgary Co-op members also stepped up for the community during the Mustard Seed’s Turkey Ham Jam event. More than 900 donated turkeys, hams or chickens will fill The Mustard Seed’s holiday food hampers for low income families. Close to $15,000 in donations will help round out the hampers and provide other necessities for The Mustard Seed’s clients.
“Once again, Calgary Co-op members were able to give hope and support where it is most needed," said Sage Pullen McIntosh, Communications Manager at Calgary Co-op. "Collectively, the passion of the agencies and partners behind these events was matched by the dedication and caring support of our members. The result of that effort is much needed support for needy families and individuals in our community this season.” #togtherforgood
