“The Real Mexican Flavor” is now available at Calgary Co-op World of Food.
If you love Mexican food you have to try Charras tostadas. The Charras brand was founded by the Nuevo Leon family in 1982 as Tostricas Nieto SA in Monterey; production locations have changed but still made in Mexico.
Made with corn flour, tostada is the Spanish word meaning “toasted” and a tostadas is a toasted tortillas.
Served throughout Mexico and greater Latin America for centuries, you can top tostadas with cooked shrimp, chicken, beef or refried beans and sprinkle with shredded cheese, before heating in a medium oven until the cheese melts. This warms the tostadas enhancing the corn flavor and adds crisp texture. Serve with fresh guacamole, or favorite hot sauce.
A great way to start or end the work day is to toast the tostada for a few minutes, while you fry an egg sunny side up. Spread a thin layer of refried beans, or guacamole and top with the egg and cover with salsa. Regardless if you choose breakfast or dinner it’s as delicious as it is quick to prepare.
Calgary Co-op has brought this international taste of Mexican cuisine to Calgary.
