Calgary, AB (August 26, 2020)- Calgary Co-op is turning on the pumps and opening the doors at its new state-of-the-art Mission gas station, car wash and convenience store. The station and store are the first phase of Calgary Co-op’s mixed-use development plan located at the corner of Macleod Trail and Mission Road.
“This development is aligned with Calgary Co-op’s long-term goals and demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the community,” says Ken Keelor, Calgary Co-op CEO. With the current pandemic and economic downturn, we feel this commitment is more important than ever. We believe in Calgary and we will continue to invest on behalf of our members to help ensure the long term success of our local communities.”
As part of this development, Calgary Co-op also participated in the #CalgaryKind Community Art Movement by including inspirational murals at the location created by local artist Nicole Wolf. In her mural titled “All Roads Lead to Calgary Co-op,” she captures the essence of the four communities: Rideau Roxboro, Parkhill, Erlton, and Mission, that this new development will serve.
“#CalgaryKind connects essential businesses with the arts community during these extraordinary times by using art as a placemaking tool to share kindness, shift perspectives, and build community,” says David White, Principal at CivicWorks. “Public art has significant economic and social impacts; it tells the story of a place, improves business viability, attracts neighborhood investment, and enriches our relationships with each other and our city.”
The future development site also includes a community outdoor space: Calgary Co-op Commons. This site will be available for community use, and includes picnic tables and parking spaces.
Calgary Co-op will be celebrating the opening of Mission with a small community celebration that will include free ice cream twists, slushes, Co-operative Coffee and specials.
