Set a large, heavy skillet over medium-high heat.

Add a drizzle of oil and cook the patties, sprinkling with salt, for 8-10 minutes, or until just cooked through.

Remove the patties and warm the chili or beans in the same skillet, then pour over of the burger patties, or put them back into the pan, spooning the chili or beans over them to warm them through. If you’re transporting your dinner to a campsite, it’s easy to rewarm the cooked burgers in the chili or beans, adding some water if the sauce gets too thick.

Serve topped with grated cheese and green onion straight from the skillet, or load them onto buns to serve.
