Co-op Community Foundation

Last year, we donated $1.9 million towards this cause. This year, we plan to continue our mission, by dedicating more money toward improving food accessibility and reducing poverty rates in our city.

Autism Calgary

Community Autism Calgary 2021Through the Calgary Co-op Community Pantry Program, we support Autism Calgary’s mission to provide those living with Autism Spectrum Disorder access to a dependable food resource. The program provides eligible individuals and families with weekly access to the pantry for four months. During that time, Family Support Staff help to address the root cause of the food insecurity and work to find sustainable ways to meet the individual’s needs.

Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids

Community brown bagging calgary kids 2019 We are proud to support Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids, a program that works with community groups and volunteers to provide lunches to approximately 4,400 kids each school day. School staff help identify young students in need, then retirees, parent groups and local businesses help to make each bagged lunch. This program ensures students have the nutrition they need to achieve their best.

The Calgary Fetal Alcohol Network

CUPS Calgary Society

Community CUPS 2019We support the CUPS Calgary Society’s core goal of providing integrated healthcare, education and housing for adults and families in Calgary who are suffering as a result of traumatic events or poverty. The program’s ultimate aim is to help people in these situations become self-sufficient.

The Calgary Seniors’ Resource Society

Community Calgary Seniors Resource Society 2019We are proud to support The Calgary Seniors’ Society’s mission to assist homebound seniors with traveling to and from their local grocery store. The Society’s Escorted Transportation program provides round trip transportation for a minimal gas fee, and the Escorted Shopping program pairs seniors with a volunteer who drives them to their local Co-op every two weeks, shops with them, and even helps them pack away their groceries. 

Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter

Community CWES 2019We are proud to support the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter which provides safe and secure accommodations, food, clothing, referral services and counselling for women and families who are fleeing abuse.

The Children’s Cottage Society

Community childrens cottage Brendas house 2019We work with The Children’s Cottage Society to provide families staying at Brenda’s House, an emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness, with nutritious meals. Designed by a dietician, meals at Brenda’s House are served to families in need, three times per day.

High River Food for Thought

Community HR Foood for Thought 2019The High River Food For Thought program provides families that are struggling financially with daily lunches for 110 children in need. All fruits and vegetables for this program are purchased from the High River Co-op.

McMan Youth, Family, and Community Services Association of Calgary and Area

Community McMan Youth FAmily community Services association 2019To assist vulnerable women where addiction has created a risk for their unborn child, we support the McMan Parent Child Assistance Program. These women can be impacted by poverty, job instability, illness and isolation. This program provides three years of home visitations to help improve overall health and well-being. And emergency food hampers provide fresh food tailored to meet the specific needs of each woman and her pre-natal and baby care needs.

Meals on Wheels

Community Meals on wheels 2019We are proud to support Calgary Meals on Wheels, a service that offers a Home Meal Delivery Program to provide those in need with freshly-chilled or frozen meals. This service promotes health and independence by offering clients access to nutritional meals every day of the year, delivered right to their doorsteps by our caring volunteers.

Mount Royal University

Community MRU 2019Working in conjunction with Mount Royal University (MRU) and Calgary Urban Project Society (CUPS), we are helping local, low-income families develop food and nutrition knowledge through access to CUPS’ rooftop garden and MRU’s greenhouse and community garden. Led by local nutritionists the program is designed to develop gardening skills and an understanding of the benefits of healthy, local food. 

Nutrition Students Teachers Exercising with Parents (NSTEP)

Community nstep 2020We support this evidence-based health promotion initiative which helps children with the prevention of chronic diseases associated with being overweight. Local chefs teach children how to make nutritious meals while focusing on the importance of healthy eating practices and exercise. Supplies and groceries used in the program are given to students to take home so they can educate their parents as well.

Samaritan Club of Calgary

Community Samaritan Club Calgary 2019We work with the Samaritan Club of Calgary to provide support for families in desperate need of groceries, medications, formula and other baby needs. Vouchers for these items are provided to families within hours of receiving a request for assistance and are able to be used at any Calgary Co-op store.
