Our Oakridge location is currently planned for a major redevelopment. The mixed-use design at Oakridge will create a dynamic urban village featuring modern residential, commercial and office space.
This new development will include a new grocery store, office space, new retail space and future residential development approved by City of Calgary council.

Every Co-op development will introduce advanced design and technology. Oakridge will feature:
• A more efficient modern Co-op store (the Co-op store, as well as the gas bar, carwash, liquor store, Boston Pizza and A&W will remain open during construction).

In order to keep services open and minimize disruption in the community, Oakridge will be developed in a staged approach. Phase 1 began Spring 2021. Expected completion for the entire Oakridge redevelopment project is 2026.

Why not just build a new store?
To enhance land use the City encourages that when land is redeveloped the project includes residential, office and commercial space. This kind of urban planning also makes neighbourhoods more sustainable and vibrant. We also know residents of Oakridge and surrounding communities desire more services in their neighbourhood.
Will the store be smaller?
The store will be smaller but with a more modern, efficient layout. It will have all the things you love about the current store and more, like programs we have at many of our other locations.
Will the store be closing?
The old store will not close until the replacement store is open. The gas bar, A&W, liquor store and Boston Pizza are not changing.
Will the residences be condos?
The mix of condos and rentals will be determined at a later date, depending on the market and interest from the community.
Who is building it?
Calgary’s own local Elan Construction group has currently been awarded Phase 1 of the project. The construction company for the remaining phases will be tendered and decided in the near future.
Will there be more traffic?
A traffic study was done and there is not expected to be a significant impact on traffic. However, the City will be looking at changes that can be made to lights etc. as area roadways and travel patterns are updated with planned area road expansion.
When will the new food store be ready?
It is estimated that the new store will open sometime 2023/2024.
