Killarney gas station is the latest project in Co-op’s $2.25 billion investment in Calgary

Killarney NR 2018

August 8, 2018, Calgary, Alberta – Calgary Co-operative Association Limited (“Calgary Co-op”) unveiled its newest gas station in Killarney today with the ceremonial fuelling of a shiny, red Co-op truck.

But this wasn’t the first customer. The Calgary Co-op Killarney gas station has proven a welcome and convenient stop for residents in Killarney since its doors first opened July 25, with eight pumps featuring diesel at every pump and a 1,245 square foot convenience store offering everything from Co-operative Coffee to refreshing slush and ice cream “Twists.”

“As a locally owned and operated co-operative, Calgary Co-op is committed to our community, and we are very proud to extend a new offering in Killarney,” says Ken Keelor, chief executive officer, “The expansion into new communities is part of Calgary Co-op’s long-term strategy, which is dedicated to delivering an exceptional customer experience and being the best, most trusted place to shop every day.”

What can be described as the most eye-catching feature of this new location is the mural located on the west facing side of the building and created by local artists Chris Pecora and Cam Hoff of Slugger Studio. Through a clean, colourful, and playful graphic design, the artists’ hope the mural provides joy and positive energy to the visual landscape, while celebrating Killarney's vibrant community members and history.

This vibrancy was echoed in today’s community celebration featuring sampling, free hot dogs and great music by local artists.

“This is just one of the many projects Calgary Co-op has been planning as we’ve committed to an investment of $1 billion over the next eight years in retail operations, plus a further $1.25 billion in residential and office projects,” said Damon Tanzola, VP, Facilities Development and Real Estate. Additional projects planned include the much-anticipated redevelopments of Calgary Co-op’s Brentwood, Dalhousie, North Hill and Oakridge locations.
