The new urban village at our Oakridge location will include improved community amenities and green design initiatives along with exciting new retail, residential and office space.

The Plan

Our Oakridge location is currently planned for a major redevelopment. The mixed-use design at Oakridge will create a dynamic urban village featuring modern residential, commercial and office space.

The 438,772 square feet of new development will include a new 56,000-square-foot grocery store, 34,800 square feet of office space, 32,700 square feet of retail space and 249 residential units. It has received preliminary approval from Calgary city council. When completed, it will provide more than 300 jobs and homes for 500 people.

Exciting new features

Every Co-op development will introduce advanced design and technology. Oakridge will feature:

• A more efficient Co-op store, similar to our Midtown location (the Co-op store, as well as the gas bar, carwash, liquor store, Boston Pizza and A&W will remain open during construction).
• Enhanced Co-op services and product offerings.
• A green rooftop space.
• Community meeting spaces.
• An efficient and environmental friendly co-generation system for electricity and heat.
• Safer connections to area pathways.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will Oakridge Crossing take to complete?
All phases should be complete by 2025.

Why not just build a new store?
To enhance land use the City encourages that when land is redeveloped the project includes residential, office and commercial space. This kind of urban planning also makes neighbourhoods more sustainable and vibrant. We also know residents of Oakridge desire more services in their neighbourhood.

Will the store be smaller?
The store will be a similar size with a more modern, efficient layout. It will have all the things you love about the current store and more, like programs we have at our Macleod and Shawnessy stores.

Will the store be closing?
The old store as well as the services in the mall portion will not close until the replacement store is open. The gas bar, A&W, liquor store and Boston Pizza are not changing.

Will the residences be condos?
The mix of condos and rentals will be determined at a later date, depending on the market and interest from the community.

Oakridge Crossing panel 2Who is building it?
The construction company will be decided after applications are approved.

Will there be more traffic?
A traffic study was done and there is not expected to be a significant impact on traffic. However, the City will be looking at changes that can be made to lights etc. as area roadways and travel patterns are updated with planned area road expansion. The area has also seen a significant population decrease in the last 10 years so the area roads have capacity.

When will the store be ready?
The new store will open 2022.
