India

Accommodation

With TourEast holidays we stayed at Le Meridien and Sheraton Hotels, both of which are considered 5-star. I also viewed Dehli's Crowne Plaza (4-star) and Park Hotel (3-star). I would also recommend the Hilton, Sheraton and Hotel Clarks Shiraz in Aga, and Jaipur's Le Meridien, Hilton, Park Plaza and Sheraton. All of these 4- or 5-star hotels provide excellent modern amenities and facilities exceeding international standards.

Getting Around

For the first-time traveler, an escorted tour is recommended. It's the best way to discover and experience one of the world's most exotic destinations -- and ensure you don't miss any of India's highlights. I travelled with TourEast; however, a number of other companies offer tours to India, including Jade Tours, Air Canada Vacations, Silk Holidays, Tourcan Holidays, Goway, ChinaPac International, Royal Scenic and Trek Holidays.

Getting There

Numerous carriers offer service to India: Air Canada, Cathay Pacific Airways, Singapore Airlines, Asiana Airlines, Malaysia Airlines. Flights may be arranged via Vancouver, Los Angeles, San Francisco or Toronto. WestJet, Air Canada and United Airlines offer connector flights.

Travel Tips

  • A passport and visa are required to travel to India.
  • Travellers are encouraged to use bottled water, which is widely available. Check each bottle seal carefully, and always carry plenty of water with you.
  • Indian currency is the rupee. It is not possible to purchase rupees before you travel; however currency can be exchanged at the airport and at some of the larger hotels. Traveller's cheques and credit cards are accepted at major establishments.
  • For current information on vaccinations, check with your doctor or international travel clinic before your go. Hepatitis A and B vaccinations are recommended.
