The Destination - AsiaTriple your fun with an Asian getaway featurin Hong Kong, Thailand and China by Cathe Smith, Travel Manager, Village Square If Asia is on your wish list, it pays to explore travel options that help you cover more ground, pack extra fun and excitement into your holiday, and make the long journey worthwhile. The secret is to include several destinations in your itinerary. For example, I recently enjoyed a wonderful taste of Asia on a 12-day holiday with JBC Tours Canada. My trip included three nights in Hong Kong, two nights in Bangkok and two nights in Pattaya, Thailand. We then flew to Beijing for a three-night stay in the Chinese capital. JBC Tours co-ordinates travel to all areas of Asia. They can arrange flights, short three- to four-day stopovers or extensive tours. I found their arrangements top notch, with local guides at all the stops. JBC Tours has a good relationship with its Asia partners and can customize tours to fit everyone's needs. Destination: Hong KongHong Kong is everything you can imagine - and more. It's a bustling, lively city that pulses with excitement. It combines a distinctive Chinese culture with a colonial heritage that makes it unique and very cosmopolitan. Hong Kong offers family attractions such as its new Disney Theme Park and Ocean Park. It has a variety of museums for every age, from history to space and science, which feature excellent exhibits. A must-do one everyone's list is a stop at Victoria Peak with its fantastic view. The Land Between Tour is another great way to experience the tranquil outer areas. The nightly Symphony of Lights show over the Harbour highlights Hong Kong's modern technology. Hong Kong is very compact, so visitors are never far from shopping and key attractions. The excellent transportation system makes it easy to see all the sights, no matter where you stay. Hong Kong is year-round destination. The climate is mild from mid-September to the end of February; the weather from May to mid-September is rather warm and humid. Most of Hong Kong's precipitation occurs between May and September, with August registering the highest rainfall. Hong Kong Attractions You could easily spend a whole week in Hong Kong. A good way to get acquainted with the city is the half-day city tour, which includes Victoria Peak, Repulse Bay and a sampan ride in Aberdeen. We also took the "Land Between Tour" to the lush countryside outside the city. Disney has opened a small theme park and the Ocean Park is undergoing a huge renovation and expansion. Hong Kong has several interesting museums, including an art museum and a museum focused on science. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Museum of History. As expected, there are endless shopping opportunities in Hong Kong. Stanley Street is a favourite of mine. Nathan Road is another terrific shopping venue, and the night market there is a wonderful experience. |
