December 31, 2003
REMINDER: Permanent Resident CardDid you know that starting December 31, 2003 permanent residents (landed immigrants) of Canada who do not have Canadian citizenship, are required to have the new Permanent Resident (PR) card - which replaces the paper IMM 1000 Record of Landing document. According to the government of Canada, Canadian permanent residents whose passport is from a non-visa waiver country, such as India, Pakistan or China, are required to have this card with them before re-entering Canada by aircraft, train, boat or bus. Those who do not have the PR card will not be permitted to board any commercial carrier, and will have to contact the nearest Canadian embassy or consulate to arrange for a limited-use travel re-entry document at a cost of $50 CAD. Any Canadian permanent resident whose passport is from a visa waiver country, such as France, Germany or Spain, are allowed to travel to Canada without a PR card if their passport is valid.
