NOTICE OF 2010 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETINGMark your calendars to attend the 53rd Annual General Meeting of your Calgary Co-operative Association Limited on March 10, 2010, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the main Ballroom at the Carriage House Inn, 9030 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary, Alberta. The purpose of the meeting will be to conduct business normally brought before the annual general meeting, hear the financial results highlights for 2009, consider proposals (if any), and learn the names of the members elected or re-elected to our board of directors. Registration for the AGM starts at 1:00 p.m. in the foyer outside the meeting room. The Calgary Co-op Board of Directors has submitted a proposal prepared by AON Consulting on board remuneration. A summary of the proposal can be found here. A detailed presentation of the proposal will be given at the AGM for consideration. If you are a Calgary Co-op member and want to submit a proposal for consideration by members at the annual general meeting, please review the instructions for submitting a proposal (click here). Proposals that affect the bylaws of the Calgary Co-op must be submitted by December 1, 2009, in order to be considered at the annual general meeting on March 10, 2010. Proposals that do not affect the bylaws can be accepted from the floor of the annual general meeting but must be submitted in writing to the Parliamentarian for the meeting or the Meeting Secretary, at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the AGM (which begins at 2:00 p.m.), otherwise it will not be accepted for consideration at the meeting. Candidate Information - 2010The following candidates are running in this year's director election. To view each candidate's platform, please click on their name. (Disclaimer: The platforms and opinions expressed by the candidates for election to the Calgary Co-operative Association board of directors are their own, and are not endorsed by or reflective of the views of the Calgary Co-operative Association Limited.) Information about candidates standing for election to the board of directors will also be published in the winter issue of Co-op News. Information will also be available on in-store posters and other materials that we may publish. Candidate information will also accompany the mail ballots members receive with their T4A. Please note, mail balloting is for the director election only. Members still need to attend the AGM on March 10, 2010 to vote on proposals and other matters brought before the business session. Director Election Voting ProcessIn late January, members will receive a T4A for the patronage return they received in early 2009. An election ballot will be included with the T4A. Voting for the director election will start February 1 and run through February 28, 2010. Members can cast their votes using the ballot form and either mail their completed ballot to Grant Thornton (the election firm), or drop the ballot in the designated locked ballot boxes at any Calgary Co-op food centre by the February 28, 2010 deadline. Ballots received after February 28 will not be included in the election count. Detailed instructions about the ballot and voting process, and candidates for the board, will be provided with the mail ballot, and will also be in the winter issue of Co-op News, which will be available in early February 2010. Please be sure to cast your mail ballot as this will be your only opportunity to vote in the director election (voting no longer takes place at the AGM venue on the day of the AGM). Members who do not receive a T4A or an election ballot by mail can request a ballot directly from the election firm. Contact information and instructions for doing this will be available in the winter issue of Co-op News and on www.calgarycoop.com (click on the AGM and Director Election icon on the home page and follow the links). When requesting a ballot be mailed to you, be sure to allow a few days for the ballot to reach you by mail before the February 28 voting deadline. |
