Bags to Riches  

Each year, Calgary Co-op employees choose four charities to receive funds donated by members and customers to our Bags to Riches program. In 2007, members and customers recycling their plastic and paper shopping bags at Calgary Co-op food centres donated over $15,000 to local charities. 

Charities and our environment win with Bags to Riches. Re-use your plastic grocery bags and receive a 3¢ credit per bag which you can donate to our designated charities through this program.

For 2008, designated charities are:

•       Animal Rescue Foundation (January to March) 
•       Calgary Humane Society    (April to June)       
•      Tom Baker Cancer Centre   (July to September)
•    Heart & Stroke Foundation (October to December)              

In Airdrie, funds collected during the year will go to the Airdrie Food Bank.

In Strathmore, funds collected will be donated to the Wheatland County Food Bank from January to June, and to the Community Crisis Society, Region 5 from July to December.   

Calgary Co-op customers have donated $5865.12 to the Animal Rescue Foundation for the period of January to March and $7700.37 to the Calgary Humane Society for the period of April to June.
