An Investment That Always Pays Off!

Community Investment

Thank you! We owe our success to you, our members!

You purchase our products and services, allowing us to be a meaningful contributor to our community. Our success depends on the strength of our community as this is what drives the foundation of our Community Investment Program.

It is necessary, due to the funding requests we receive each year, to establish a long-term community investment strategy. Our program supports the philanthropic goals of the Alberta's Promise Program and supports charities that benefit children and families.

Investing over three million dollars a year into our community, we provide financial, product and in-kind support to local charities, non-profits, associations and other organizations that most closely reflect our corporate values and strategies. Click here to see some of our recent recipients.

We are committed to communities where our employees and members live and work.

Bags to Riches

Each year, Calgary Co-op employees choose four charities to receive funds donated by members and customers to our Bags to Riches program. In 2011, members and customers recycling their plastic and paper shopping bags at Calgary Co-op food centres donated over $47,000 to local charities.

Charities and our environment win with this program. Re-use your plastic, paper or canvas tote bag and receive a three cent credit per bag which you can donate to our designated charities through this program.

Project Warmth

Thanks to you and your generous donations of coats, hats and mitts, Project Warmth was one again, a huge success!

The Calgary Fire Department collected over 4000 winter items from our centres and now countless children and families in need will receive warm clothing this winter.

Thank you to everyone!

Partnership with KidsSport

Calgary Co-op has partnered with KidsSport, which provides support to families that require financial assistance to enroll their children in sports program and to purchase sports equipment. Applications are available at customer services, but must be dropped off at KidSport when completed. For information, click here.

Charity Plus Program

Charity Plus is a program that enables registered charities to receive a Charity Plus card, entitling them to a five per cent discount on almost all purchases they make at Calgary Co-op. To qualify, your organization must have a charitable registration number with Canada Revenue Agency, and a membership with us. A membership may be purchased at any Calgary Co-op Centre for $1. Other non-profit groups are not eligible, but are welcome to apply for donations from Calgary Co-op under our Community Investment Program.

Bursaries

Calgary Co-op Trust Fund

The Calgary Co-operative Trust Fund (CCTF) was established in 1983 to provide bursaries to worthy recipients for their post-secondary studies. Each year $6,000 is provided in student bursaries.

The CCTF provides three annual bursaries of $2,000 each for students attending post-secondary studies at Mount Royal University, the University of Calgary and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. These bursaries are administered and awarded by each post-secondary institution based on criteria established by the respective institution.

Donating to the Calgary Co-op Trust Fund

The CCTF was originally established using funds bequeathed to Calgary Co-op by a long-time member who wanted Calgary Co-op to administer these funds for educational bursaries. Today, the CCTF is funded by interest earned on the original money donated, as well as from donations made by Calgary Co-op members. If you would like more information about how you can make a donation to the CCTF, please contact the chair of the Calgary Co-op Trust Fund at 403-219-6025, ext. 6109. Tax receipts are issued for all donations made to the CCTF.
