Calgary Co-op and Global Television's "No One Should Go Hungry" Food Drive in support of the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank Hayley Wickenheiser Shows Her Support for the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank

May 3, 2006, Calgary, Alberta - Calgary Co-op in partnership with Global Television is pleased to announce the new "No One Should Go Hungry" food drive on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at all Calgary Co-op locations in support of the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank. Hayley Wickenheiser, a member of Canada's 2006 Olympic Gold Women's Hockey Team will be on hand at the Hamptons Calgary Co-op located at #1000 Hamptons Drive N.W. from Noon until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 to show her support by greeting fans and helping to collect food and cash donations. Please join us for a photo opportunity with Hayley at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 at the Hamptons Calgary Co-op.

Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank volunteers will be at each Calgary Co-op location to collect food and cash donations. Customers may also donate directly at the checkouts by purchasing a $10 or $20 Food Bank voucher or by donating non-perishable food items.

"Going into the summer months, it is important to remember families need help now more than ever," says Melinda Lundy, Calgary Co-op's Co-ordinator of Member and Public Relations. "Calgary is a rapidly growing city. We feel it is important to help the Food Bank keep up with increasing demand throughout the year, in addition to key times such as Christmas." Last year, over 109,862 Calgarians came to the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank, 42% of them were children.

Locally owned and operated, Calgary Co-op is one of the largest retail co-operatives in North America, with 405,000 members, 3,600 employees, $288 million in assets and annual sales of $816 million.

Now in its 50 th year of operations, Calgary Co-op has 20 retail shopping centres, 24 gas bars, 11 travel offices and 14 liquor stores located in Calgary, Airdrie and Strathmore, Alberta.
