Calgary Co-op Appoints Chief Executive OfficerApril 2, 2004, Calgary, Alberta - The Board of Directors of Calgary Co-operative Association Limited today announced the appointment of Ken McCullough as chief executive officer. Mr. McCullough will assume his responsibilities as CEO on May 3, 2004. "In selecting Mr. McCullough from more than 80 candidates, the Board of Directors recognized that Mr. McCullough possesses the operational, human relations and other skills Mr. McCullough comes to Calgary Co-op from Federated Co-operatives Limited, where he has been the Winnipeg Region Manager since 2001. Mr. McCullough has extensive retail co-operative experience having been in the co-operative retailing system in western Canada since 1978. Before accepting this position with Calgary Co-op, he was the general manager of Grande Prairie and District Co-op from 1998 to 2001 and Carman Co-op in Manitoba from 1992 to 1996. Mr. McCullough will replace Darwin Flathers, who has acted as interim CEO since early March. Mr. Flathers will resume his post as vice president, capital investment and development. Locally owned and operated, Calgary Co-op is one of the largest retail co-operatives in North America with assets of $272 million, sales of $750 million, 390,000 members and 3,600 employees. In addition to its head office in Calgary, Alberta, Calgary Co-op operates 18 retail shopping centres, 22 gas bars, 11 liquor stores and 11 travel agencies in Calgary, Airdrie and Strathmore, Alberta. Two new centres - the Midtown Market and Rocky Ridge Centre - will open in Calgary in fall 2004.
