Mayor Announces Ticket Availability for Unity ConcertMayor Dave Bronconnier today announced ticket details for the Calgary Unity Simulcast Concert featuring the Rolling Stones at the Pengrowth Saddledome on July 30, 2003. The Calgary Unity Concert will be the only opportunity for Calgarians to see the entire line up of bands playing in Toronto, including the Rolling Stones. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at all Calgary CO-OP stores beginning Friday morning (July 25). Tickets will also be available at CO-OP stores in Strathmore and Airdrie. Tickets are free and will be limited to 4 per person. Each ticket is also good for free Calgary Transit service beginning at 10 a.m. on July 30. "We're pleased Calgary CO-OP has come on board," said Mayor Bronconnier. "Calgary CO-OP has been a big supporter of the beef industry since the BSE issue broke and their enthusiastic participation in the Unity Concert reflects their continued commitment." Approximately 16,000 tickets will be available for the July 30 show. "When we originally conceived this concert, we thought we could make many more tickets available to accommodate people who wanted to catch one or two acts and then free up their seat for someone else," explained Mayor Bronconnier. "However, in discussions with the Pengrowth Saddledome and the Calgary Fire Marshall, it was determined that for safety reasons and ease of access we would limit tickets to the capacity available in the Saddledome." The Unity Concert activities will begin at noon at the Pengrowth Saddledome with a street festival and free beef barbeque for the first 10,000 people. Local music acts will be featured on a stage during the street festival. The Saddledome doors will open at 2 p.m. with the concert starting at 3 p.m. The concert and barbeque are free, however, donations will be accepted for the Cattle Industries Recovery Strategy fund. Those wishing to contribute to the fund, but unable to attend the event may contact Cathy Keeler at 275-8558. For more information, contact: Peter Brodsky, Communications Director |
