CALGARIANS FIGHT GRUMPINESS BY GIVING DELECTIBLE STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKES ON VALENTINES DAY.

CALGARY, AB:  The Calgary West Rotary Club is into the final stages of the 8th annual Strawberry Shortcakes (SSC) fundraiser.  The event has captured the imagination of hundreds of Calgarians who order SSC's for friends, family, employees, clients - or grumpy neighbors! The order cutoff date is Friday, February 8th.  Complete information is at www.strawberryshortcakes.ca.  

Strawberry Shortcakes are a great way to say "thank you".  They are an excellent way to deal with a grumpy spouse or cranky neighbor in the middle of a frigid Alberta winter.  Individual servings cost $6.  Orders of 6 or more will be delivered free of charge within Calgary and Airdrie.  Minimum order requirements apply.  

The Strawberry shortcakes will be delivered by the Calgary West Rotary Club on Valentines Day 2008.  Who could stay grumpy when the doorbell rings announcing the arrival of a sweet treat on February 14th?  The shortcakes are baked fresh by the Calgary Co-Op Baking division as part of a sponsorship agreement.  .

Calgary West introduced the innovative fundraiser in 2001.  It grew from 300 shortcake orders to over 4,500 in 2006 and topped 6,500 in 2007. The club expects to exceed 8,000 orders in 2008.  

The volume grew significantly when businesses began ordering SSC's as promotional products for staff or clients.  As the idea took off, sponsors like the Calgary Co-Op were attracted.  As part of the agreement, The Calgary Co-Op Baking division prepares the shortcakes for delivery by Rotary volunteers.  

The Co-op is a major sponsor in the second of a three year agreement. Other sponsors include Valentine Volvo, TigerTel UTR, Stampede Messenger & Express, and Unimark Creative Services.
