Workplace Safety - It's Not An Option
Health and Safety
Work place health and safety is our priority. We actively monitor our business practices to ensure everyone is working safe.
Our employees participate in ongoing workplace safety training and each of our locations has a Health and Safety Committee, managed by our Director of Health, Safety and Environment.
We have attained a Certificate of Recognition from Alberta Employment and Immigration and our Certifying Partner, Alberta Association for Safety Partnerships (AASP).
Together, Calgary Co-op and its employees are ensuring a safe workplace for each other and for the members and customers who shop at our locations.
We are committed to environmental leadership to conserve, protect and enhance the environment. We believe that land, water and air are precious commodities that should be respected for the benefit of future citizens of communities we serve.
In 2010, we saved over 63,000 trees due to our recycling efforts in the Cascades Recovery Program. Read more.
Food safety is a priority with us. We carefully train our employees in safe food handling and ensure they have the information and training they need about proper handling of food products.
In 2002, we implemented a comprehensive food safety program, which includes certification upon completion. Every Calgary Co-op employee who handles fresh product must attend and become certified through this food safety training program. Our employees receive their food safety training through the Alberta Health Services. After an employee completes the initial training program and certification, they must be re-certified on a regular basis thereafter.
Our management team is responsible for offering effective leadership, setting food safety policies, and providing proper equipment and training.
Employees at every level are responsible and accountable for our food safety program. To achieve the food safety standards we have set for ourselves, every employee must participate actively, every day, in every job.
Employees are responsible for learning about food safety, following all procedures, and working with an awareness of food safety as it relates to themselves, other employees and our customers.
Together, we will provide customers with the freshest, safest food on the market.
