Health and Safety

Work place health and safety is a priority at Calgary Co-op.  Each of our locations has a Health and Safety Committee, managed by our Director of Health, Safety and Environment. We work hard to ensure that our work environment is safe, and involve our employees through training and active monitoring of work place practices.

Because work place safety is so important, we recognize employees and locations for their safe work place practices. For example, the location with the best safety record receives a corporate donation to their social committee.

In addition to meeting all of the requirements outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Calgary Co-op goes beyond those requirements by providing:
  • Every employee with WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems ) training
  • Every employee with on site training for safe operating procedures whenever they change departments or positions
  • Gas bar employees with propane handling and other safety training
  • First aid training and certification throughout the year so that every location has one or more employees on site with first aid training at all times during operating hours.
  • Fork lift training
  • Access to personal protective equipment if required
  • Food safety training
  • Emergency response procedures training

Together, Calgary Co-op and its employees are ensuring a safe environment for each other, and for our customers.
