Food Safety

Food safety is a priority at Calgary Co-op. We carefully train our employees in safe food handling, and ensure they have the information and training they need about proper handling of food products.

In 2002, Calgary Co-op implemented a comprehensive food safety program, which includes certification upon completion. Every Calgary Co-op employee who handles fresh product must attend and become certified through this food safety training program, taught by SAIT instructors. After an employee completes the initial training program and certification, they must be re-certified on regular basis thereafter. Calgary Co-op employees receive their food safety training through the Calgary Health Region.

At Calgary Co-op, we are committed to food safety programs that protect our members/customers from risks associated with food handling.

Management is responsible for offering effective leadership, setting food safety policies, and providing proper equipment and training.

Employees at every level are responsible and accountable for our food safety program. To achieve the food safety standards we have set for ourselves, every employee must participate actively, every day, in every job.

Employees are responsible for learning about food safety, following all procedures, and working with an awareness of food safety as it relates to themselves, other employees and our customers.

Together, we will provide customers with the freshest, safest food on the market.
